The Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill was passed by the South Australian Parliament on June 24, 2021.

Voluntary Assisted Dying became a legal end of life choice for South Australians on January 31, 2023.

In the first three years, over 900 VAD Permits have been issued, and around 550 people have used the VAD substance to end their suffering, representing 1.5% of all deaths in South Australia in that time.
