Podcasts are an increasingly valuable resource in providing information to the community and countering some of the myths and misunderstandings associated with VAD.
Three podcast series are presented.
Voices from VAD is presented by South Australian GP and VAD practitioner Dr Laureen Lawlor Smith; Nightshift is presented by NSW journalist Suzanne James; and Andrew Denton’s early podcast series “Better Off Dead” and the more recent exploration of how VAD is working in Victoria complete the picture.
Voices from VAD presents a series of thoughtful conversations between Dr Laureen Lawlor-Smith, a VAD trained GP in South Australia, and people with experience of VAD.
Discussions with former Premier and now Anglican priest Dr Lynn Arnold, former NT Chief Minister Marshall Perron and many others provide an insight into how VAD is working across Australia. Her 20th podcast is a discussion of her experience and reflections as a VAD practitioner.
Nightshift is an Australian podcast and video channel presented by journalist Suzanne James. Nightshift is dedicated to Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) — providing clear, accurate, and up-to-date information on VAD laws, policy, practice, and lived experience across Australia. Through long-form conversations, interviews, updates, and explainers, Nightshift explores how Voluntary Assisted Dying works in each Australian state and territory, what’s changing, and what it means for patients, families, clinicians, carers, advocates, and the wider community. Nightshift aims to cut through misinformation and stigma by centring evidence-based discussion, compassion, and lived experience, supporting informed choice at the end of life.
